Junk Hauling 101: What We'll Take, What We Won't, and What to Expect

Whether it's a garage that's been filling up for two years or a single couch that won't fit in your car, junk hauling is one of those jobs that's simple in theory and annoying to actually do yourself. Here's what to know before you book it.

What typically gets hauled

  • Old furniture — couches, mattresses, dressers, tables
  • Appliances that are being replaced
  • Garage and basement cleanout piles
  • Leftover construction debris from a small remodel or repair
  • Yard waste from a bigger cleanup than your green bin can handle

What usually needs a heads-up first

Anything with refrigerant (fridges, freezers, AC units), paint and chemicals, tires, and electronics often have separate disposal rules in Utah County and Salt Lake County. It's not that these can't be hauled — it's that they may need to go to a different drop-off point than everything else, so mention them when you book so the trip is planned right.

How pricing generally works

Junk hauling is usually priced by how much space it takes in the truck rather than by the piece — a couch and a stack of boxes that fill the same space cost about the same. That's why a quick photo or a walk-through before the job gets you a more accurate price than a phone description alone.

Getting ready before we arrive

  • Group everything in one spot — garage, driveway, or curb — if you can
  • Note anything on the second floor or in a tight spot; it doesn't change whether we take it, just how we plan the pickup
  • Set aside anything you're still deciding on — easier to leave it than to chase it down after

Why same-day matters

A junk pile has a way of growing while you wait for a truck. Most of our hauling jobs get scheduled and cleared within a day or two of the call — which tends to be the difference between "I'll get to it eventually" and it actually being gone.
